At East Halton Primary School, we endeavour to provide appropriate provision for all children in our care to enable them to achieve in all aspects of school life. In order to do these many steps are taken to support them through their learning journey. High-quality teaching is the most important resource a child can receive in order to help them reach their full potential; however, for some children, there are occasions when additional support is required to support them to achieve.

In addition, we have a strong, dedicated team around the child including a pastoral team.

Here at East Halton Primary School, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all of our children. The Early Years Curriculum and the National Curriculum give the starting point for teachers to plan to meet the specific needs of individuals and groups of pupils. Teachers plan and deliver lessons that both support and challenge pupils. A minority of children have particular learning requirements that could form barriers to learning. Teachers take account of these requirements and ensure that provision, when necessary, is provided to support individuals or groups of children access and achieve within all lessons. Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) Mrs Esther Parnaby is responsible for monitoring the progress and needs of these children and she can be contacted via the school office.

The four broad areas of Special Educational Need set out in the 2014 Code of Practice are:

Communication and interaction
Cognition and learning
Social, emotional and mental health
Sensory and/ or physical

The Children and Families Bill became enacted in 2014. From this date, Local Authorities and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services that are available for the children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) aged 0-25.This is known as the ‘Local Offer’.

SENDIASS stands for Special Educational Needs and Disability, Information, Advice and Support Service.

SENDIASS North Lincolnshire is a free service for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their parents and carers. It’s impartial and we give confidential information, advice and support in relation to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and related health and social care matters.

SENDIASS aims to empower children and young people with SEND and their families with the information needed to achieve the best possible outcomes.

SENDIASS offers advice and support on a range of SEND related issues:

• SEND information
• Exclusions/Suspensions information
• Transition information
• Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) information
• Healthcare and medical needs information- SEND
• Social care information-SEND
• Disability and equality information

SENDIASS provides:

• Advocacy support to help children and their parents or young people to help ensure their views are heard and understood
• Support to understand SEND legislation and processes, including mediation and appeals to the SEN and Disability Tribunal
• Advice on how to improve communication between parents, carers, young people and schools or other agencies.
• Support to resolve disagreements around SEND issues impacting on young people and their families.
• A wide range of online information and resources
• A role in informing local policy and practice
