Curriculum

At East Halton Primary School we teach to the appropriate needs of all our children ensuring that we cover all requirements made upon the school in terms of the Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum. We strive to be creative and work hard to provide our children with rich learning experiences.

 

Our Foundation Stage curriculum activities are planned using curriculum guidance. Their curriculum is divided into these six areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Communication, Language and Literacy

  • Mathematical Development

  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World

  • Creative Development and Physical Development

 

Our KS1 and KS2 curriculum activities are planned using the National Curriculum guidance and include:

  • English (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Design Technology

  • Computing and Programming (Networking)

  • History

  • Geography

  • Art & Design

  • Music

  • PE

  • Modern Foreign Language - French (KS2)

 

We participate in termly RE (Multi-cultural) weeks where children learn about different religions and cultures.

 

Other subjects covered in our school are:

 

  • Personal, Social, Citizenship and Health Education (including Drugs Education)

  • Road Safety

  • Sex Relationship Education

  • British Values are introduced, discussed and embedded through our curriculum

 

Further enrichments include:

  • F1 challenge: KS2 children work as a team to design and produce cars to race in an F1 experience sponsored by Jaguar. They design logos, car specifications, presentations using ICT technology and compete against other schools in the area.

  • Cook off: A whole school event supported by local businesses where by each class produces a themed 3 course meal cooked and presented by the children and judged by local chefs and school Governors. Children learn life skills involving cooking and hygiene skills.

 

 

At East Halton School, we are proud of the broad curriculum we teach, we work hard to develop the skills of our children helping them prepare as they move onto Secondary Education and adult life. It is important to us that our children leave Primary Education as a well-rounded individual.
